Evangelicals and Politics since 1980: A Documentary

Reagan was the first presidential candidate who the press credited Evangelicals for electing in 1980, the year I was born.  Find 50 minutes to watch this excellent PBS documentary (The final episode of an excellent six part series).

It looks at key figures including Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Robert Cizik, Rick Reed, Jim Wallis, George W. Bush and Barack Obama evenhandedly.

  1. I saved this post over a year ago. I am really glad I got to watch it. Thank you for posting it. It was insightful to see how the Evangelicals became what they are known today. While I became jaded at first, I am hopeful that what we know of as Evangelical or Christian for that matter can continue to change into what God would like it to mean and not some political cultural group.

It was fun to see Ed Dobson too, I am big fan of his. His personal testimonies about ALS are pretty powerful. Thanks Chris!
